This was a electrical / mechanical test. Gear is next. 240km around Banks Peninsula. We gave them a good thrashing on seal and gravel.  Had to bail heading up the old Le Bons track.. it was starting to look like our Random Spur epic (https://youtu.be/zmScjbtcSwE?t=1m19s) just steeper, rockier and more slippery due to the wet clay. Would have been easier with knobby tires! We decided the goal was to 'Shake' not 'Break' the Groms so took a small detour.  Only issues were...

This TAT prep is all consuming. Pretty much every room in the house is littered with gear, parts, tech and papers! As soon as the bikes are shipped we'll have to do a major clean up. Now where did I leave my 10mm socket!?...

Nearly done with the pre TAT upgrades and servicing. Just over a month before we ship. Hopefully enough time for a few shakedown tests to make sure we haven't made any mistakes.

Pre-TAT service and upgrades underway. First up, new wheel bearings. Probably not necessary but with all the river riding we've done we figured we may as well change them. With the wheels off I reckon the Groms could travel as excess baggage ...

Took a number of angle grinder blades and a...

We've been doing a little planning over the past couple weeks. Purchased the entire set of GPS tracks from Sam (http://www.transamtrail.com/) and he was kind enough to include the new North Carolina section which starts in Damascus, Virginia.  Last week the Mid Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route (http://ridebdr.com/MABDR) was released which ends in Damascus...

By the time we started thinking seriously about doing the TAT, we had already had our groms for about a year and done close on 7000km on them. Things that we had added/modified at that stage included: · Front and rear suspension – Racing Bros adjustable suspension. We still don’t know how to adjust them perfectly, but it has made a world of difference. · Tyres – swapped out the stock slicks and put on a slightly more aggressive tyre Mitas MC20....
