Crater Lake was beautiful. Bonus, the lady park ranger knew our bikes were Groms :) Tomorrow we will be back on the TAT. It looks like only 2 more days till we make Port Orford. Quite a bit of the trail looks to be off pavement and includes a particularly gnarly climb somewhere between Tiller and Azalea. Should be interesting. Not sure where we will end up tomorrow night. Not a lot of camping or motel options. We may just have...

The TAT is so different from day to day. Yesterday it was all trees trees trees, and today it was more varied both in terms of scenery as well as terrain. Still a lot of trees, but it started off with a nice winding road along the crooked river then changed to scrubby hills then forests. Trail varied from winding seal to fast gravel to red and white dirt (think painted hills dirt) with the odd bit of sand thrown...

That was a cold night. My temperature logger hit a new low 4.9C (~41F). The Austrian we met yesterday had warned us but we were not expecting temps like this and are really not set up to camp in less than 10C so it was an uncomfortable and restless night.. or was it the RF from the radio tower? Either way, we started out knackered from the first km (0.621 miles). Riding was similar to yesterday. Fast wide gravel roads with...

We had a bit of a false start this morning and had to call into Walmart to re-buy the few bits I bought yesterday but inadvertently left in the bag at the till (facepalm). Then it was back into Idaho to get onto the TAT briefly before crossing back into Oregon officially. Unfortunately the TAT is unable to avoid the interstate, but only for a short section. We pulled into Huntington to top up with fuel and clean the millions of midges...

A nice cruisey day for us. We took the asphalt to Featherville to avoid the closed bit of road. The first bit to Castle Rocks was straight and kinda boring, but as soon as we turned off the 20, the road got nice and curvy, although the air was quite smokey from a distant forest fire. We arrived in Featherville and decided to have an early lunch at Cyndies Featherville Cafe instead of our usual nut bars on the side of...

Another late start. We should have stayed for the free waffle breakfast, but we don't usually do big breakfasts. 5 minutes after starting off we had to stop again so I could clean my visor. Serves me right, I was blowing rasberries at a mustard yellow Harley andmanaged to get spittle on the inside of my visor. Easy riding today, but I was definitely having an off day. Sim reckons I was riding like a nanna. I proved this by coming...

Brr it was chilly last night. Our lightweight sleeping bags which have been fine up till now had us layering up with thermals and puffer jackets which have been buried in our bags since the Colorado passes. Our idyllic campsite turned less ideal with the frequent rumbling of trains throughout the night. We got off to another late start and after looking at the map, were thinking we were in for for some more straightforward gravel roads. We would probably be...

Our latest start to date today. We were both pretty shattered from the past couple days so we didn't roll out of bed until 7.30. The plan for the day was a little rest and maintenance for ourselves and the Groms. A quick stop at the auto store for some chain lube and we were back at the busiest car wash in the US, except this time it was empty. With the Bonneville salt washed from behind their ears the...

Moab and White Rim look like they will be hard to beat. This part of Utah seems to look more like what we imagine Nevada to look like. Lots of straight flat roads today. Funnily enough, coming in to Tredmonton, the landscape changed again and all of a sudden there are fields and the air smells like straw instead of dust. It looks like how we imagine Idaho to look like. The highlight of our day today was of course our...
